Stream Team

What is it and what is it they do……..

Would like to put something on the site for Stream Team Activity…

Might even consider the Stream Team using Twitter.

The Team could tweet their activity as they perform it and all could tag along for the Stream Team experience.  We can integrate Twitter into the site here and all could follow and see.

What is the Risk?

Smiley face

Everyone Lives Downstream…

Map – Marker Approximate Feet above Sea Level
C – Chicken Factory 1100 Feet
R – Roaring River 940 Feet
T – Table Rock Lake 925 Feet

What is the risk if no one keeps an eye on the fall out from the local Chicken Factory?  Doesn’t take much to ponder the possibilities and to put two and two together.

The stuff rolls down hill.  From 1100 Feet at the Chicken factory to 940 feet at Roaring River.  It will enter Roaring River and won’t take long to enter Table Rock Lake (925 feet).  Here is an excerpt from the History tab (Chicken Factory) on this site:

The DNR permit allows the facility to store up to 386 tons of manure unprotected for up to two weeks during the CAFO’s spring-cleaning. Regulations require that such stockpiles be situated at least 300 feet from drainage ways. But the DNR’s representative, Darrick Steen acknowledged that his observation of the site leave him to believe that there are limited locations for a temporary stockpile of chicken litter. He has not evaluated the site to determine whether such a stockpile could exist on the site. Nevertheless, DNR issued the permit. The manure can sit unprotected atop the hill near the losing stream, during the rainy season.

DNR says the Ozbun factory has not had a spill. YET

How can you help

Roaring River Parks Alliance
Our third annual Roaring River Parks Alliance picnic was held at the Eagle Rock Community Center Pavilion on Fri. Sept. 28. A nice shower fell about an hour before we started and we welcomed it!! We were glad to welcome many new faces this year, as members and as volunteers throughout the year.  We bid farewell to Julie Fraley, volunteer coordinator for Roaring River State Park as she embarks on a new venture/job in Nebraska.

Our membership drive continues and the dues collected now will be paid through Dec. 2013.  We are a 501c3 group, and our membership is $20.00 per household.
Address: Roaring River Parks Alliance, Box 214, Eagle Rock, MO. 65641.
